“…Although all the facets of the pianist’s performance are admirable, its biggest strength seems to be
comprehensibility. Though very complex in terms of form and technique, Majewski’s playing is
astonishingly expressive. Phrasing, which follows the best practices of classical music, is supported by
sophisticated musicality which gives to each piece its specific form. Though soulful, “Przemiana” is far
from cheesy. Each piece of music is like a beautiful story with a clearly outlined theme, unfolding,
culmination and moral at the end.
Yet the best representation of Wojciech Majewski’s skills is his own composition – Nadświadomość
[Overmind] – one of the most beautiful tracks which could be listened to in the infamous year 2020.
The artist managed to express in it all those things which make its piano playing so unique:
emotionality, cantilena, subtlety contrasted with fierceness and great sense of motifs.”
Marcin Puławski – Laboratorium Fuzji Muzycznych
“…Wojciech Majewski is a perfect piano player, because “Przemiana” [Transformation] is an exquisite
album, all the more so that it was recorded on the piano solo, which does not allow the pianist to
make the slightest mistake(…) “Przemiana” has been the most interesting music proposed by
Majewski so far. The first time I listened to that album I realized that each subsequent recording from
that pianist would be worthy of the utmost attention.”
Rafał Garszczynski – Jazzpress
“…Majewski has come up with a heterogenous album which verges on a narrative tale. Obviously it
makes you think of tens of albums recorded by classic jazz pianists so far. What is truly astonishing is,
however, that in such a “worn-out” formula Majewski has found his own way. Instead of attempting
to imitate somebody, he plays “himself” on his own, which makes his performance natural,
convincing and intriguing”.
Tomasz Janas, IKS, Poznański Informator Kulturalny
„…Two of original compositions are expanded into mini-suites, lasting over ten
minutes each, which allow Majewski to express a wide range of emotions and
his excellent pianistic technique. The other two, although slightly more concise,
are no less expressive and emotional. The interpretations of the songs are very
liberal with the melodic themes, and become entangled in passionate
ornamentation, using a barrage of chords, rhapsodic arpeggios and almost
percussive attack of the keyboards, creating a storm of sensations and sounds.
(…)this is still a superb musical experience, which will not leave any listener
“on the fence”. Personally I had a great time listening to this music, but to each
his own. Connoisseurs of Jazz-Classical Fusion will have a field day with this, but the
album does require patience and attentive listening – as usual quality does not
come easy! Highly recommended!”
